Shimla Schoolchildren Felicitated for Improving School Sanitation Standards

The event, held at Hotel Marina, on May 24, showcased good practices of sanitation and hygiene in schools. Students from 12 Shimla schools were felicitated for their commendable work in improving sanitation standards of their schools. The event was graced by the Assistant Director, Department of Higher Education, Shimla Dr. Divendar Kashyap; Municipal Engineer Mr. Vijay Gupta; Health Officer, Shimla Dr. Umesh Bharti, Director –SNUSP, GIZ India Dr.Regina Dube and Acting Head of Division ‘South Asia’ Federal Ministry for Economic Corporation and Development Germany Mr.Wolfgang Hruschka.


The objective of the event was to share and disseminate knowledge related to sanitation, hygiene and safety in schools. “Sanitation and hygiene needs to be practised daily for a better life, it should become part of our lifestyle” – this was the unanimous opinion of all present.

The event, organised by GIZ-India, was attended by more than 100 students, and graced by the 16 member delegation from Germany.

Highlights:

  1. ‘Early Birds’ Award to 10 schools of Shimla - 10 government and private schools of Shimla were given ‘Early Bird’ Award to appreciate their initiative and active participation towards improving sanitation condition of their schools.
  2. Launch of documentary film “Breaking Boundaries” which was made by the students of Shimla Public School, Shimla on their vision of sanitation. The film was developed by Earthcare Outreach Trust (ECO), a professional film making unit.
  3. Launch of book ‘Ayush in the news’– a children’s book on school sanitation. This book is an endeavour to communicate the importance of hygiene and improved sanitation in schools, through the perspective of a young student.
