Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in India Meets Trainees of GIZ’s Make-It-In-Germany Programme

A group of young engineering sciences graduates selected under GIZ’s Make-It-In-Germany Initiative of the German Federal Government met the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in India, H.E. Mr. Michael Steiner at his Residence in New Delhi today. Ten young Indian technical graduates have been selected for this programme which will enable them to be trained in German SMEs and to experience work and life in Germany.

Ambassador Steiner spoke about the similarities of the business mind-set between India and Germany. He stressed on the fact that Germany offers multiple avenues for vocational training and skill development, this programme being one of the innovative offerings. The informal exchange saw the Ambassador share his thoughts and experiences in the Indo-German context. “I wish this pool of bright young talent the very best for their stint in Germany.” said Mr. Steiner.

‘Make it in Germany’ is an employment-oriented training programme of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs (BMAS) and the Federal Employment Agency (BA), implemented in India by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

In the preparatory phase in India (3 months) and Germany (1 month), the trainees enhance their German language and inter-cultural skills. Following this, they start a four-month internship in a German firm with the prospect of getting employed afterwards.

According to one of the trainees, Rohit Sen, a mechanical engineer specialising in renewable energy “the traineeship programme promises international exposure and insights into the functioning of German industry.”
