All India Environmental Journalism Competition award winners recognised at IFAT India 2014

German Ambassador to India, Mr Michael Steiner honoured this year’s winners of the All India Environmental Journalism Competition at IFAT India 2014, India’s leading trade fair for water, sewage, refuse and recycling. The ambassador, together with Dr Dieter Mutz of GIZ, Mr Gerhard Gerritzen of IFAT organisers Messe München and journalist Darryl D’Monte of The Third Pole handed over mementos and certificates to the winners of the print, internet, video and photo category. Representatives of the sponsors, including IFAT, ICLEI South Asia, KfW, and German Water Partnership, handed over the certificate and cheques to the award winners.

In addition, Ambassador Steiner recognised Nitin Sethi of the Business Standard for his work with the Clean Ganga Award issued by the German Embassy. In his speech, the ambassador stressed the importance of Prime Minister Modi’s push for the rejuvenation of Ganga.

Darryl D’Monte, member of the editorial advisory board of The Third Pole, addressed the audience on the importance of environmental journalism in India.

The All India Environmental Journalism Competition is an annual event jointly organised by GIZ, Asian College for Journalism, ICLEI South Asia, The Third Pole, and DW Akademie. It aims to promote high quality journalism covering environmental topics.
