Higher protection, lower restrictions: Re-thinking labour relations for a new India

We invite you to the 30th GIZ-IGSSP Social Security Seminar
with a talk by Professor Dipankar Gupta on Wednesday, 29 October at 04.30 pm

Venue: GIZ Conference Room, 21 Jor Bagh, New Delhi – 110003

The new government has initiated a dialogue and review of labour laws, to bring them in line with requirements for rapid economic growth and investment. With a very large informal workforce even in the organised sector, labour relations are however a challenge. The Centre for Public Affairs and Critical Theory (C-PACT) at Shiv Nadar University, New Delhi, recently presented a Draft paper suggesting amendments to the current Industrial Disputes Act, in the hope of addressing the interests of employers and workers within a consensual legal framework. For the seminar, Professor Dipankar Gupta will present the key recommendations of the paper.

Professor Gupta is a Distinguished Professor and Director of Centre of Political Affairs and Critical Theory (C-PACT), Shiv Nadar University. He was formerly Professor in the Centre for the Study of Social Systems at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. In his corporate engagements he has contributed in setting up customized ethical business manuals, advising clients on corporate social responsibility, and carrying out social audits and sustainability services.
