Additional information

TVET has a central significance for the organization and the design of school-to-work-transition and forms an important basis for life-long learning. The professionalism of TVET teachers is crucial to ensure that graduates are adequately prepared for their occupational work and careers and that the thresholds between the education in schools and vocational training as well as between vocational training and the employment system are kept low.

Within international competition, the quality of vocational initial and further training has become an important factor, above all in countries facing actual challenges in adjusting economic and employment systems. The strengthening of pedagogical, technical and managerial competences of TVET personnel and the permanent modernization of its qualification has been embedded as a focus topic in the global agenda for sustainable development.

Specifically actual requirements resulting from so called “Digital and Green Transformation” drive demands for a development of adequate future oriented competences of TVET teaching and management personnel which must be able to act, manage and lead in complex processes of TVET practice, planning and development. These requirements need to be addressed by work and business process orientation, context-oriented learning and shall be safeguarded by an adequate future-oriented qualification of TVET teaching, management and planning personnel.

This master’s degree programme is tailored to above described dimensions and demands for international TVET professionals from educational institutions such as vocational schools, companies, and universities, and as well ministries, chambers, and associations. This international oriented program is designed demand-oriented in an online-learning format.

Experts accompany the students during the entire study program and support them in their professionalization and competence development.

The target group of the English-taught programme are professionals from the field of vocational education and training. These include ministries, chambers, and associations as well as educational institutions such as vocational schools, companies, and universities.

Potential students should be interested and ideally have first work experience in the field of TVET, e.g. teaching and training, TVET research, international development cooperation, educational policy-making or administration.

The OVGU sees itself as a profile university and strives for a sharply contoured and lean structure, which has a traditional focus on engineering and natural sciences as well as medicine, and sees economics, social sciences and humanities as indispensable disciplines for a modern university. A comprehensive internationalization of research and teaching is seen by the OVGU as elementary for further development of its profile. In teaching, the OVGU demands a highly qualified, scientific education that is oriented to the current state of research as well as to the requirements of practice.

Over 14,000 students, including over 3,000 international students, are enrolled in more than 80 programs across the nine faculties.

In its research and teaching, the Faculty of Human Sciences is oriented towards the university's profile in engineering, natural sciences and economics. At the Institute "Education, Vocation and Media" of the faculty, several chairs (the professorships for specialized didactics in health and nursing sciences, technology and education as well as business education) are actively involved in research and teaching in diverse subject areas of vocational education in the department "Vocational Education and Human Resources Development”.
