10 Years of GIZ

In 2011, a new company was formed: the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. GIZ is the result of a merger between the Deutscher Entwicklungsdienst (DED) gGmbH, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH and InWEnt - Internationale Weiterbildung und Entwicklung gGmbH (Capacity Building International, Germany). On behalf of the German Government and its international partners, GIZ works around the globe to shape a future worth living.

Expertise from 60 years of international cooperation

For ten years now, GIZ has consolidated the expertise of its three predecessor organisations: technical cooperation, development services and professional training and continuing education.

GIZ’s range of services has continually evolved, with new areas of activity being added to its development cooperation portfolio in line with its extended corporate purpose, including stronger cooperation with the European Union and with industrialised nations such as Greece and Germany.

Today, GIZ provides its commissioning parties, clients and partners worldwide with experience and expertise gleaned from 60 years of international education work and international cooperation for sustainable development –‘Made in Germany’ and under one roof.

Solutions for a sustainable future

GIZ serves as a cooperation partner for actors from the fields of politics, business, science and civil society. Thanks largely to local networks around the globe and extensive expertise, GIZ can develop needs-based, sustainable solutions swiftly and flexibly with its partners.

In its work, GIZ draws on experience and reliability while embodying and actively shaping change. GIZ responds to global developments with flexibility, embracing innovation and thinking ahead — and thus provides solutions today for a sustainable future.
