Improved living conditions worldwide
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH works on behalf of the German Government and other clients to promote global sustainable development. With support from GIZ, more than 16 million people gained access to improved sanitation between 2010 and 2015 and services were provided for well over four million refugees and displaced persons. These are just two of the many sectors for which GIZ – a federally owned enterprise – has gathered data on the results achieved across projects and countries, thus demonstrating that effectiveness and efficiency are key priorities in its work.
These aggregated figures enhance GIZ’s comprehensive quality management system, which complies with German and international standards. Statistics on the results achieved in completed projects are published on GIZ’s website. Current project data are also available online, reflecting GIZ’s commitment to transparency in relation to its operations and the outcomes achieved.
GIZ’s work not only undergoes internal monitoring and evaluation. International organisations such as the Development Assistance Committee established by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD-DAC) also conduct audits of international cooperation – including GIZ’s operations. To read the appraisal of GIZ’s work in the DAC’s latest evaluation report and find out about successful recent projects, please visit our new ‘International cooperation works’ web page.
