Bonn Conference for Global Transformation 2015: register now!

New international conference series for sustainable action begins on 12 and 13 May

Bonn. On 12 and 13 May 2015, the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH will hold the first in a series of international conferences for sustainable action under the banner of the Bonn Conference for Global Transformation. The series looks at the process behind the United Nations’ post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals, bridging the gap between theory and practice, policy-making and implementation.

Experienced actors and decision-makers from around the world will gather in Bonn, including North Rhine-Westphalia's state premier Hannelore Kraft, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Special Advisor on the Millennium Development Goals Jeffrey Sachs, and Indian researcher, environmental activist and ‘Alternative Nobel Prize’ winner Vandana Shiva. Together, they will develop ideas for shaping a sustainable future and take away suggestions and inspiration for their own work. The first conference will be entitled ‘From Politics to Implementation’. Subsequent Bonn Conferences will take place every two years.

The focal topics for 2015 are energy (Green Transformation), inequality (Inclusive Transformation) and practical implementation: What does a sustainable energy supply system look like? What role can economic growth play in reducing inequality? What lessons can be learned from others? Which alliances are the most viable?

The United Nations’ post-2015 agenda sets new global Sustainable Development Goals this year to replace the Millennium Development Goals. These new goals will apply to developing countries, emerging economies and industrialised nations alike.
