Support for studying and internships in the USA

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange: apply now for a stay in the USA!

Bonn/Eschborn. A dream. An opportunity. An adventure. For over 33 years the German Bundestag and US Congress have been offering young professionals the opportunity to enhance their career prospects by spending a year abroad.

Combining college studies with a practical internship, in the coming year the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (PPP) will once again give both school students and young German professionals a chance to experience the American way of life first hand. Acting as young ambassadors for their countries, they will help to improve understanding between the two nations.

The aim of this exchange programme, which is organised jointly by the national parliaments, is to enable young people to learn about the social and economic conditions and history of the other country and to strengthen German-US relations. Members of the German Bundestag and US Congress act as sponsors for the participants during their year abroad. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is responsible for implementing the programme for young professionals.

The German Bundestag and US Congress cover the costs of the preparatory and follow-up phases, attending college, staying with a guest family, and travel and insurance.

You have until 16 September 2016 to request the application documents for next year’s exchange, which starts in August 2017 (application documents are available by mail or online). The programme is open to apprentices and young professionals born after 31 July 1992 who have had several years of English lessons and will have obtained a vocational training qualification before travelling to the USA.
