Experience abroad to help kick-start your career

Dream? Opportunity? Adventure? Internship in the USA

Anyone thinking about getting a first-hand taste of the ‘American way of life’ next year should get a move on. 16 September 2016 is the cut-off date to request application documents for the exchange programme that starts in August 2017.

For more than 33 years, the German Bundestag and the Congress of the United States of America have been offering the ideal combination of college attendance and professional internship in the form of the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange programme. The one-year stay in the USA gives young professionals a better chance of improving their future and their career prospects. As ‘young ambassadors’ for their country, they get to know the historical, social and business environment and help to improve transatlantic relations in the process.

Members of the German Bundestag and of the Congress of the United States of America assume sponsorship of programme participants for the duration of their stay. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is responsible for carrying out the exchange programme.

Grants from the Bundestag and the United States Congress cover the cost of preparation and follow-up, college attendance, accommodation with host families, travel expenses and insurance.

Trainees and young professionals applying to take part in the programme must have been born after 31 July 1992, have been learning English for several years and have completed a course of professional training prior to departure.
