Photography exhibition: Refugee Cameras

Fotoausstellung: Durch die Linse von Geflüchteten © Kevin McElvaney
06.06.2017 - 19.06.2017 | GIZ, Saal Donau (Bonn)

Why do we tell stories that are not our own? Why do we not leave the telling to those whose story it is?

With these thoughts, Kevin McElvaney, a photographer from Hamburg, made his way to Turkey and Greece in December 2015. He gave refugees disposable cameras, asked them to document their journeys and return the cameras to him. Seven of the 15 cameras came back. Refugee Cameras is a moving exhibition in which the refugees tell their own stories. There are 65 million refugees worldwide. Kevin has given them a face and a platform. What’s different this time is that the refugees are the authors of their own stories.
