World literature comes to GIZ – with Gary Victor

World Literature comes to GIZ – a German premiere with Gary Victor reading from his brand new book Im Namen des Katers.

Born in Port-au-Prince in 1958, Gary Victor is one of Haiti’s most popular contemporary writers. He has also gained a name for himself in the German-speaking world with his crime thrillers Schweinezeiten, Soro and Suff und Sühne. In his novel Im Namen des Katers, which has just been published, Victor’s protagonist, Inspector Dieuswalwe Azémar, investigates a series of murders. When he has to follow his boss’s orders and interrupt the investigations to track down a certain Georges, he has no idea what kind of hornet’s nest he is stirring up. The more the plot of this bizarre case thickens, the more dangerous things become for the inspector. In the fight against gang crime and matters of the occult, Azémar can no longer rely on even his closest colleagues. Gary Victor has received numerous awards for his work and his uncompromising look at Haitian society, including the Prix RFO. His crime thrillers are on the Zeit newspaper’s crime fiction bestseller list and on Litprom’s Weltempfänger bestseller list.

The evening will be moderated by Dietmar Kanthak, Head of the Arts Section of the Bonn-based General-Anzeiger newspaper. The reading will be in French and German. Peter Trier, the book’s translator and publisher, will interpret from the French.

Entry to the reading is free.
