Köpfe und Ideen: Britta Steffen visits GIZ

At each Köpfe und Ideen event, the spotlight is turned on an individual who is bringing fresh impetus and hence enhancing international cooperation.

‘I am basically interested in the well-being of the planet and not in making my life as nice as possible.’ (Britta Steffen)

Britta Steffen has won everything a swimmer can win: two Olympic gold medals and several world and European championships.

Even during her career as a swimmer, Britta Steffen set herself additional professional goals. She studied industrial engineering, specialising in sustainability, and obtained a master’s degree in human resources management in 2017. Britta Steffen ended her swimming career in 2013.

Today, at the age of 36, she is a popular speaker, gives talks at companies and gets involved in social projects. She is also an official BMZ ambassador for UN Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water. She recently announced that she would avoid flying completely in future in the interests of sustainability. Britta Steffen will talk about her life and about what she has been doing since the end of her sporting career.
