Internships in the USA
Bonn/Eschborn. Dream. Opportunity. Adventure - For over 33 years, the German Bundestag and the United States Congress have offered young professionals the chance to broaden their personal horizons and career prospects by spending a period of time abroad.
With a one-year stay in the USA that combines college attendance with a vocationally oriented internship, the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Programme will again enable young German professionals – along with pupils – to experience the ‘American Way of Life’ first hand. As young ambassadors representing their countries, they help promote better relations between their two nations.
The aim of this exchange, which is organised jointly by the parliaments of these two countries, is to enable young people to get to know their host country from a historical, social and economic perspective while deepening German-American relations. MPs from the German Parliament and Members of the U.S. Congress sponsor the participants for the duration of their stay. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is responsible for implementing the CBYX for young professionals.
The German Bundestag and the U.S. Congress pay all expenses incurred in connection with preparing for the CBYX programme and re-integrating on return. They also cover the costs of college attendance, accommodation with a host family, as well as travel and insurance.
Applications for the exchange due to start in August 2016 are available (online) until 11 September 2015. Young professionals applying for this programme must have been born after 31 July 1991, have had several years of English lessons and completed their vocational training prior to departure.
