GIZ is launched

Bonn/Eschborn, 3 January 2011. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH will commence operations at the beginning of 2011. The organisation brings together the long-standing expertise of the Deutscher Entwicklungsdienst (DED) gGmbH (German Development Service), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH (German Technical Cooperation) and Inwent – Capacity Building International, Germany.

GIZ is a federally owned organisation. It supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ is also active in international education work. It helps people and societies all over the world to improve their life prospects and living conditions themselves.

GIZ works in 130 countries worldwide. Its registered offices are in Bonn and Eschborn and it is represented in nearly all German federal states. It employs 16,862 staff (2010).

For 2010, GIZ estimates that turnover and grants will total EUR 1.9 billion.
