Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture
Since 2010, the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) has commissioned GIZ to implement various projects.
On behalf of the Ministry, GIZ is assisting the Ethiopian Government to establish an Agricultural Training Center (ATC) in Ethiopia. A further project to develop capacities in Ethiopia’s seed sector started in 2012. In addition, GIZ assists the Ministry in implementing projects focusing on global food security under the German Government’s Bilateral Trust Fund with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and also advises on international forest policy issues and sustainable forest management.
At the technical level, the Ministry and GIZ regularly engage in dialogue on a range of topics: global food security, access to land, sustainable resource management, renewable resources, food safety and consumer protection. They also cooperate closely on preparations for the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA), which takes place as part of International Green Week in Berlin.
