The Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) and its executive agencies at federal and state level mainly cooperate with GIZ on the submission of bids for, and implementation of, twinning and EU grant-funded projects.

GIZ has also been commissioned directly by the Ministry to implement projects on HIV prevention in Ukraine, drug policy in Central Asia, global health policy, and the reform of the World Health Organization (WHO). For example, with EU grant funding GIZ is working with partners from seven other EU Member States on collecting data on drug abuse in Central Asia and, as part of a pilot project in the region, is setting up a system to provide treatment for drug users and prevent addiction. In addition, GIZ advises the German Government on the development of its global health strategy and facilitates its dialogue with civil society.
