Federal Ministry of Health (BMG)

The Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) works with GIZ in several areas including global health and the prevention of highly infectious diseases.

GIZ advises BMG on developing a new federal government strategy for global health. GIZ also supports the ministry’s dialogue with civil society.

During Germany’s G20 Presidency in 2017, GIZ and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) worked together on behalf of BMG to simulate the outbreak of a disease that spreads similarly to Ebola. The simulation exercise aimed to sensitise the G20 states to roles and responsibilities in the case of an international health crisis, and to assess the functionality of the agreed mechanisms for coping with such a crisis.

In addition, cooperation between BMG and GIZ covers projects on HIV prevention, drugs policy in Central Asia, and support for the reform of the health system in Greece.
