Federal Ministry of the Interior
The Ministry – with GIZ’s support – secured joint financing for projects from the EU and bilateral partners such as Macedonia, Lebanon, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. GIZ also supports the implementation of these projects and, in this context, works closely with executive agencies such as the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), the Federal Police and the Federal Academy of Public Administration, and with the state interior ministries and their police authorities.
On behalf of BMI and the German Federal Office of Administration (BVA), GIZ has been implementing the Programme for National Minorities since 1993 in the states which now exist on the territory of the former Soviet Union. The programme aims to improve conditions for ethnic Germans living in these countries. In Afghanistan, GIZ is implementing an EU-funded project to combat drug trafficking on behalf of BMI.
