Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community (BMI)

The Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community (BMI) and its 19 downstream agencies have been working with GIZ for many years, with varying scope and depth depending on the topic.

With GIZ’s support, the Ministry secured joint financing for projects from the European Union and bilateral partners such as Lebanon, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

On behalf of BMI and the German Federal Office of Administration, GIZ has been implementing the Programme for National Minorities since 1993 in the states which now exist on the territory of the former Soviet Union. The programme aims to improve conditions for ethnic Germans living in these countries. In Kosovo, GIZ has been working on behalf of the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees on a reintegration project for returnees since 2016.
