Strategic Alliance Orange Digital Center

Project description

Title: Strategic Alliance Orange Digital Center
Commissioned by: German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
Country: Egypt
Partner: The Orange Group – Orange Middle East and Africa
Overall term: 2020 to 2022

One of the most prominent challenges facing Egypt today is its high unemployment rate. The mismatch between labour supply and demand is exacerbated by the economy’s inability to produce highly skilled workers. This has resulted in an urgent need for digital skills to enhance youth competencies, a need that has become more pressing given the Covid-19 pandemic, which has accelerated the pace of digitisation in businesses and industries.

The strategic alliance between Orange and GIZ is improving the employability of youth by training, supporting and empowering young people to gain employment-related digital skills.

The project offers a combination of free training, coaching, mentorship and career advice delivered through the “Orange Digital Center” (ODC).

The ODC has three main components:

  1. The coding school - a technology centre equipped with cutting-edge hardware and software that provides trainings on mobile and web development (Android, iOS), unity, UX/UI, artificial intelligence, big data, cyber security, and much more.
  2. The digital manufacturing space FabLab Solidaire is part of a worldwide network of maker-spaces where objects and digital hardware can be created and prototyped with digital equipment (3D printers, laser cutters, etc.). It will offer training and help youth develop innovative ideas/concepts.
  3. The start-up accelerator Orange Fab is part of an international accelerator network helping incubated start-ups grow by building commercial partnerships with Orange Business Units and Orange group partners nationally and internationally.

Orange Tech Clubs at universities across Egypt will provide free training on the latest technology trends and soft skills to be given by Orange Digital Center experts.
