SADC Secretariat officially visited the ASEAN Secretariat

Following up an official invitation by the Deputy Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), H.E. Nyan Lynn, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Engineer João Samuel Caholo, visited the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta (Indonesia) on 25th and 26th July 2013. During their exchange both institutions intensively exchanged information and updated each other’s on the progress that is taking place in their efforts to deepen regional integration.

The exchange was prepared and implemented through GIZ support-programmes for capacity building at the SADC and ASEAN Secretariats. The programme-manager for the programme “Strengthening the Reform Agenda and Management Structures of SADC Institutions” accompanied the SADC Delegation to Jakarta and deepened the exchange with all GIZ ASEAN programmes and in particular with the programme “Capacity Building for the ASEAN Secretariat”.

ASEAN is a geo-political and economic organisation of ten countries located in Southeast Asia aiming to accelerate economic growth, social progress, cultural development among its members while ensuring regional peace and stability. SADC is a regional bloc comprising 15 Member States committed to poverty eradication within Southern Africa through economic development and ensuring peace and security.
