First exposure to GIZ concept of Value Chain Analysis for North East Region

CCA-NER holds first-ever Value Links training in Kohima, Nagaland

The promotion of agricultural value chains for income generation and basis for funding of business models through National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), India’s apex development bank, is an integral component of GIZ’s Climate Change Adaptation for the North Eastern Region Project (CCA-NER).

The first ever training on Value Links in North East Region was organised by CCA-NER from April 13-17 in Kohima, and attended by over 25 participants from Sikkim, Meghalaya and Nagaland. Participants included diverse stakeholders from line departments, development organisations and the private sector associated with promoting value chains in their respective regions.

The training provided state-of-the-art know how on applying the value chain concept, based on a methodology developed by GIZ. At the valedictory function, Menukhol John, Commissioner and Secretary, Government of Nagaland, and Team Leader, Nagaland Empowerment of People through Economic Development, stressed that this knowledge is the need of the hour, and hoped that the training would lead to the formation of a core team that would apply this knowledge at work. He also hoped that this training would benefit others. In its second phase, one of the mandates of CCA-NER, which is a part of the Indo German Environment Programme in Rural Areas, is to promote promising Climate Smart Value chains from North East Region, as a Climate Change Adaptation strategy. The Value Links training in particular, is intended to serve personnel from line departments and consultants working in development agencies, associated with promoting value chains, keeping in mind environment sustainability and pro-poor growth.

Ms. Mercy Epao, Director, Ministry of Development of North East Region (MoDoNER) and Imkonglemba Ao, Agriculture Production Commissioner and Commissioner & Secretary, Nagaland also graced the valedictory of the training and presented certificates of participation.
