GIZ participates in the Habitat III Asia Pacific Regional Meeting 2015 at Jakarta

The Habitat III Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting held at Jakarta from 21st to 22nd October 2015 involved a wide range of participants that debated regional priorities for the New Urban Agenda and policy recommendations in the form of a final regional participants' declaration. Representatives from 54 countries participated in this event hosted by the Government of Indonesia.

The meet concluded with a Call for Action on sustainable, inclusive and resilient urban development, highlighting a required “radical shift in the way cities are conceived, planned and developed.” That statement fed into the two-day Habitat III sessions, the first of several regional meetings slated to take place in the run-up to next year’s cities conference in Quito. The regional meeting adopted a set of recommendations through its outcome document, the Jakarta Declaration.

The Indian delegation was led by Ms. Nandita Chatterjee, Secretary, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India. She was accompanied by the GIZ team, represented by Ms. Aparna Das, Senior Advisor, GIZ-ICPP, and Prof. Om Mathur, Senior Fellow, Institute of Social Sciences. GIZ was one of the members of the National Habitat Committee which contributed to the preparation of the Habitat III report for India.
