Sub Group 4 Meeting held under the Indo-German Energy Forum
A meeting for sub group 4 of Indo-German Energy Forum – “Green Energy Corridors and Grid Management” was held on 19 May 2016 at The Royal Plaza, New Delhi, under the chairmanship of Mr. S. Selvakumar, Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), and Dr. Wolfram Klein, Head of Division- India & South Asia, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The meeting was attended by 35 delegates majorly from companies like PowerGrid, CEA, state transmission utilities (Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat), KfW, GIZ, BMWi,Reliance, Essel Infrastructure and Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen.
The session was started with chairs presenting the details on GEC, its relevance to India, followed up by presentations by KfW, GIZ, PowerGrid on GEC status and an external consultant sharing his views on pump storage for grid stabilisation. The objective of meeting was to get 3 priority issues which would be taken by IGEF for future collaboration. The 3 priority issues identified are:
- To assess the evolving renewable energy (RE) evacuation and integration into the grid requirements covering both technical and financial aspects in view of enhanced RE capacity targets of 175 GW by 2022.
- Grid stabilisation mechanisms such as large storage solutions like pump storage.
- Exploring the future requirements for smooth and compatible data communication infrastructure for grid management purposes.
