Kochi Initiative on Non-Conventional Wastewater Treatment bags Platinum at Skoch Award 2016

The innovative project on Non-Conventional Wastewater Treatment of Kochi Municipal Corporation (KMC) was awarded the prestigious ‘Skoch – Platinum’ Award during the 45th Skoch Summit organised at Hyderabad. This innovative project is supported by GIZ’s sanitation project ‘Support to National Urban Sanitation Policy-II’ (SNUSP-II). The project of KMC had been qualified amongst the “Top 100 Projects in India”. In continuation to ‘Skoch – Order of Merit’ award and achieved in the second round the “Skoch Platinum -Award” under Smart City – Wastewater Category.
Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development supported the Kochi Municipal Corporation (KMC) to develop an concept for energy and resource efficient wastewater and septage management system that suits the conditions of a coastal city such as Kochi, where water table is high and centralized and conventional sewerage system not viable. The concept has been developed by Hamburg Wasser and Prof. Oldenburg (Westfälisches Umweltzentrum) and adapts principles of “Hamburg Water Cycle” to the Indian conditions.
