C4C: Urban Mobility in Emerging Economies – Challenges and Approaches
Cities are already growing at a rapid rate and becoming focal points of human community. The achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda of the UN Habitat Process hinges on cities and related national and subnational actions. A sustainable and intelligent urban development is essential to take equal account of both human needs and environmental limits. One main area of action is the transport sector. It is considered to be globally the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases with half of the emissions arising from urban transport. Fuel-efficiency, reduction of emissions and a general increase of collective transport means are possible solutions to lower the environmental footprint of transport.
In the last event of the Capacity4Change (C4C) event series, GIZ, IRU and MobiliseYourCity outlined challenges and presented innovative approaches for sustainable modes of transport and urban mobility, specifically focused on emerging economies.
The event was live-streamed, a video will soon be available on the C4C-YouTube channel.
