Call for Expression of Interest - 83376798 - A review of energy efficiency lighting research in South Africa

In 2019, the first phase of an energy efficient streetlighting demonstration site was constructed at the Innovation Hub in Pretoria.  The project is supported by the Energy Efficient Street Lighting Retrofit Project funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).  The aim of the energy efficient streetlighting demonstration project is to showcase the latest lighting technologies, demonstrate products and raise awareness amongst municipalities on energy efficient streetlighting technologies.  The project also contains a concept to unlock the research potential of the site.  To support the research objective of the LED Walkway site, The South African-German Energy Partnership (EP) and the South African German Energy Programme (SAGEN) wishes to appoint a service provider to conduct a review of the state of energy efficient lighting research in South Africa.

The objective of the activity is to provide an overview of current energy efficient lighting research being carried out at South African Universities, Universities of Technology, Eskom, public and private research institutions, to identify common themes and priorities in this research and to identify possible gaps that are not being covered by current research.  This will form the basis of the establishment of an energy efficient lighting research platform.
