Ausgangssituation

Die Bundesregierung fördert die Zusammenarbeit mehrerer Staaten in internationalen Foren, um die Ziele der Agenda 2030 und des Pariser Abkommens gemeinsam zu erreichen. Dieser Ansatz wird als multilaterale Entwicklungspolitik bezeichnet.

Das Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) setzt sich daher dafür ein, dass entwicklungs- und nachhaltigkeitspolitische Ziele bei den G7 und G20 sowie anderen multilateralen Foren eine wichtige Rolle spielen. Dabei verankert es auch langfristig die entwicklungspolitischen Ergebnisse der deutschen G7-Präsidentschaft 2022.

Ziel

Das BMZ gestaltet die Agenden der G7 und G20 sowie weiterer multilateraler Foren im Sinne der Agenda 2030 und des Pariser Abkommens, verankert die Ergebnisse der deutschen G7-Präsidentschaft 2022 und beteiligt zivilgesellschaftliche Akteur*innen stärker an den Prozessen der G7 und G20.

Vorgehensweise

Dazu ist das Vorhaben in folgenden Bereichen tätig:
• Multilaterale Entwicklungspolitik gestalten: Das Vorhaben berät das BMZ zur Umsetzung der neuen multilateralen Strategie. Dabei identifiziert es Möglichkeiten zur besseren Verzahnung der bilateralen und multilateralen Entwicklungszusammenarbeit. Dazu analysiert es Trends in der multilateralen Entwicklungspolitik und unterstützt ein verstärktes Engagement in multilateralen Netzwerken sowie der Organisation für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (OECD). Außerdem berät es zu Kooperationen mit nichteuropäischen Gebern.
• Entwicklungsagenden der G7 und G20 unterstützen: Das Vorhaben berät das BMZ dabei, deutsche entwicklungspolitische Prioritäten in den G7 und G20 zu verankern. Dazu entsendet es Personal an G7-/G20-Partner und internationale Organisationen.
• Legitimation der G7 und G20 fördern: Um Anliegen zivilgesellschaftlicher Akteur*innen aus Deutschland und dem globalen Süden besser in die Agenden der G7 und G20 einzubringen, entwickelt das Vorhaben Dialogformate und unterstützt ausgewählte Partnerorganisationen aus dem globalen Süden.

In various international forums, the German Government is fostering cooperation among a number of nations in support of the common effort to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement. This approach is referred to as multilateral development policy.
The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is thus working to ensure that development and sustainability policy objectives play an important role in the G7, the G20 and other multilateral forums. In doing so, it is solidifying the development policy achievements of Germany's 2022 presidency of the G7 for the long term.


Objective

BMZ has shaped the agendas of the G7, the G20 and other multilateral forums to reflect the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement, reinforced the results achieved during Germany's G7 presidency in 2022, and enhanced the involvement of civil society actors in the G7/G20 processes.

Approach

To accomplish these objectives, the project works in the following areas:
• Shaping multilateral development policy: The project advises BMZ on implementing the new multilateral strategy. In doing so, it identifies opportunities to facilitate more closely knit bilateral and multilateral development cooperation. This involves analysing trends in multilateral development policy and supporting increased involvement in multilateral networks, as well as in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The project also advises on cooperating with donors outside of Europe.
• Supporting the development agendas of the G7 and G20: The project provides advisory services to BMZ on anchoring Germany's development policy priorities in the G7 and G20. To that end, it is seconding staff to G7/G20 partners and international organisations.
• Promoting the legitimacy of the G7 and G20: To ensure that the concerns of civil society actors from Germany and the Global South are better represented in the agendas of the G7 and G20, the project develops dialogue formats and supports selected partner organisations from the Global South.
