Training on green bond issuance

(Hanoi) The State Securities Commission of Vietnam (SSC), in collaboration with the GIZ Macroeconomic Reforms/ Green Growth Programme, co-organized a training program on “Green Bond Issuance”. During the two half-day training sessions last 14-15 June, international experts from the Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI) have explained how Green, social, and sustainability (GSS) bonds can offer Vietnam an opportunity to leverage private capital at scale, to establish better climate-resilient, equitable economy and society. Particularly, this training course focused on the detailed process of how to issue and monitor green bonds, focusing on the market, standards, and local regulations in Vietnam.

Within the context of the policy and legal framework on Vietnam’s green bonds have been established with GIZ support, the training objectives are the capacity-building for regulators, supervisors in charge of the bond market and key market institutions (including the State Securities Commission of Vietnam, Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange, and Vietnam Securities Depository).

During the course, trainees and experts jointly elaborated Key Elements in the Issuance Process of a Bond, and Process for Issuing a Bond Labelled Green and actively analyzed real-life cases in Vietnam. Especially, they have had the opportunity to work on how to develop a Green Bond Issuance Strategy and Green Bond Framework.

At the end of the training, the SSC representative highly appreciated the technical expertise, the organization, and teaching methods of the trainers, which will help Vietnam to actualize the green bond issuance to promote Vietnam government’s national agenda, such as the National Green Growth Strategy and Vietnam’s commitment at COP26, thus contributing to the global agenda.

The training program was held within the framework of the “ASEAN Green Recovery” regional project by GIZ headquarters, implemented by GIZ Macroeconomic Reforms/Green Growth Programme in Viet Nam and in technical partnership with the Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI).
