The Presidential Youth Employment Intervention launches new online resources on the State of the Nation website

South African President H.E Cyril Ramaphosa launched a new home for the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention (PYEI) on the State of the Nation website during this year’s Youth Day event on June 16. The GIZ TVET Skills Development and Employment Cluster through the Support to the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention project (S2PYEI) supported the development of this online resource,

GIZ worked with the PYEI Project Management Office (PMO) in the Private Office of the President and other partners to develop an information package and a microsite that presents key approaches of the PYEI. The website includes a dashboard that tracks progress on its key indicators.   S2PYEI provided support in developing key indicators to monitor and track the progress of the intervention as part of the development of an Monitoring and Evaluation framework.

The new website and dashboard help improve transparency and accountability. It will also enhance communication with interested stakeholders and the public; sharing information about the implementation of the intervention.

The PYEI is a multi-sector action plan working to address South Africa’s chronic youth unemployment challenge. It seeks to increase the number of earning opportunities created for young people and combines a range of priority actions to boost youth employment.

The primary focus of PYEI is to coordinate, enhance, and scale up existing programmes across government and through close partnerships with the private sector. It is designed to effectively transition young people into the labour market.

The S2PYEI project is implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and provides technical, administrative, and implementation support to the PYEI since early 2021.
