Innovation in Biotechnology Technical Advisor

AREA OF WORK  

South Africa is committed to strengthen its local vaccine development and production capacity. GIZ “SAVax project: Vaccines for Africa. Roll-out and local production in South Africa” contributes to the empowerment of the local ecosystem by supporting training and research institutions and the regulatory capacities as well as by ensuring demand for vaccines and vaccine-related products made in South Africa (market shaping) under the leadership of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI). The project plans additional funding from the EU to scale-up the scope of work and strengthen the innovation landscape.

The SAVax project is recruiting an experienced advisor with both technical skills in health innovation and a solid network and experience working with the private sector and government to advice and manage project implementation.

The Technical Advisor is responsible for:

  • Provide technical support for the conception and implementation of a competitive call for proposals for innovation projects (biomanufacturing) in close collaboration with the political partner (Department of Science and Innovation).
  • After selection of the projects, finalize financing agreements with the selected institutions following GIZ procurement procedures and ensuring transparency and compliance.
  • Monitor project implementation with grantees and ensure communication and networking with relevant business and development opportunities in South Africa, German or elsewhere.
  • Plan, implement and coordinate activities with other institutions including KfW and actively identify interfaces and synergies.
  • Support the creation of a monitoring and evaluation system for the project.
  • Support in the preparation and presentation of technical papers for internal and external information events.
  • Elaborate attractive communication materials and design and conduct events.
