Managing coastal marine biodiversity in India: Can participatory approaches make a difference?

Indian Government is looking into options for involving concerned stakeholders in the management of ecologically important areas at the coast for the protection of biodiversity in the country. The side event, organised by the Conservation and Sustainable Management of Existing and Potential Coastal and Marine Protected Areas (CMPA) Project, revolved around the various factors that might facilitate the implementation of participatory approaches to the management of marine biodiversity in coastal areas.

The CMPA Project is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB).
