: Security, reconstruction and peace

Violent conflicts and disasters threaten the lives and livelihoods of millions of people worldwide. We support our partners in alleviating the structural causes of violent conflict and developing capacities for peaceful conflict transformation.

We help to create  a safe environment for the people, strengthen the resilience of communities and reduce the impact of disasters or and violent conflict.  In this way, we aim to stabilise fragile contexts and support peaceful, inclusive development in the long term

Our strength lies in linking transitional development assistance’ short- to medium-term approaches  with long-term development prospects. We combine economic, social and ecological development goals with those of poverty reduction and sustainability. We help to overcome the challenges associated with forced displacement. We also support host countries and origin countries of origin of labour migrants in fostering the positive effects of migration, reducing its risks and enforcing migrants’ human rights. Context sensitivity and supporting gender equity are integral to our work.

We also support peacebuilding and crisis prevention processes in contexts characterised by violent conflicts, polarisation and social tensions.  We empower people and institutions in developing and implementing appropriate approaches to dialogue and violence prevention. In dealing with the past, we help to overcome the consequences of massive human rights violations and initiate reconciliation processes.

In the security sector, following the principle of human security, we support our partners in building and reforming effective, democratically legitimised and controlled security sector institutions.
