Rule of Law Project holds Operational Planning Workshop with GIZ partners

GIZ government partner agencies and stakeholders from the national and regional offices of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), Department of Justice (DOJ)-Regional Prosecutor's Office Davao Region, Commission on Human Rights (CHR), and the Davao Public Attorney's Office gathered to discuss the projects workplan after the review of ROLMIN's logical framework, suggested activities, and sites.

After discussions, participants agreed on further actions and findings that will be incorporated into the refinement of ROLMIN's logical framework. This is seen as a stepping-stone to forward the implementation of the project and builds on the inception workshop held earlier this year.

"The project shall complement our joint efforts to stabilize the region and promote peace in Mindanao, by reducing the risk of conflict originating from conflicts over land," said Alexander Schmidt, First Secretary of Political Affairs of the German Embassy.

According to Engr. Maribel P. Alicer, ARED for Special Concern at DENR Region XI “It is our hope that the goals and objective of this project and the expected output will be reached, and the community within the protected areas will benefit and reap the fruit of this labour by the team whose goal is to minimize if not eradicate whatever conflicts arising on that area, particularly in the issuance of tenurial instrument and gender issues.”

ROLMIN, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, primarily focuses on promoting conflict management measures through improving the decision-making process for the issuance of resource use instruments and Certificate of Ancestral Domain Titles (CADTs), strengthening dispute resolution and local mediation, and promoting governmental complaints bodies to document violations of land rights in the Mount Apo Area of Davao Region in Mindanao.
