Context

Alternatives to fossil fuels and raw materials such as coal and gas are vital to promote the global energy transition and to boost climate action. New approaches such as Power-to-X (PtX) are needed to reduce emissions in sectors that cannot become climate neutral through the direct use of renewable energies alone.

The conditions in the partner countries of the project on Cross-Border Consulting and Support Services within the Framework of the Existing PtX Hub are conducive to using PtX to their benefit. They can harness their considerable capacity for generating wind and solar power to produce green hydrogen. By adding nitrogen and carbon, they can turn this hydrogen into carbon-neutral fuels and raw materials, thus benefiting sectors such as shipping and aviation and the chemicals industry.

Objective

Partner countries can use climate-neutral PtX solutions to advance their energy transition and promote their economic development.

Approach

The project is part of the International PtX Hub, a centre of expertise, collaboration and innovation on PtX. It cooperates with partners in nine countries and regions to identify and develop local options for applying PtX and putting it to commercial use.

It also organises study trips and events to promote dialogue on climate-neutral PtX solutions between policy-makers, the private sector, the scientific community and civil society, focusing on integrating PtX sustainability aspects into national strategies.

The project also develops sector- and topic-specific trainings and e-learning modules to provide further training on PtX for decision-makers and experts.
