Context

The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) works with the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) internationally.

Cooperation focuses on food security and sustainable forest management. In these thematic areas, the partners conclude projects that address current issues and challenges and aim to strengthen FAO as a knowledge organisation.

Objective

Project contracts between BMEL and FAO or other international organisations are of a high technical quality and are coordinated with other development cooperation projects.

Approach

The project supports BMEL in developing projects with FAO and other organisations. It is active in all phases: From the initial steps to selecting and providing support right through to appraising the projects, it is involved in a technical and partly administrative capacity. In doing so, it draws on the specialist and regional expertise of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in Germany and abroad.
