Empowering Female Parliamentarians and Staff in Leadership Development

Female parliamentarians and female staff members of the National Assembly (NA) and two Provincial People’s Assemblies (PPAs) of Khammouane and Luang Prabang received extensive training on leadership and strategic skill. This training took place on May 6th and 7th 2024 in Vientiane Capital.   It is led by the Cabinet Office of the Ministry of Home Affairs and supported by the CEGGA II Programme.

The purpose of the training is to equip women in the NA and PPAs with the necessary leadership skills, tools and strategies to amplify their influence in advancing women leadership and gender mainstreaming across parliamentary activities. It also aims to enhance gender sensitivity in decision-making processes within parliament, with special attention given to public engagement activities such as hotlines, petitions, consultations, hearings, outreach and oversight missions.

Participants actively share experiences, good practices and challenges in promoting women's leadership within their constituencies and bodies. By sharing experiences, adopting best practices and fostering networks, women in parliament can continue to empower one another and promote gender equality.

Team Europe’s CEGGA II Programme is funded by Switzerland, Germany and the European Union, and is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in cooperation with the Ministries of Home Affairs and Justice, the National Assembly and the Lao CSO Coordination Committee.
