International energy policy

The GIZ supports international cooperation for a global energy system transformation.
A sustainable and secure energy supply for all as well as a global energy system transformation can only be achieved through international cooperation. International and regional institutions and initiatives formulate political goals through cross-border cooperation, initiate cross-border projects and offer important forums for political dialogue and exchange of experience.
On behalf of the German Federal Government, GIZ is involved in international institutions and policy processes with the aim of advancing the topic of sustainable energy supply on the development policy agenda. GIZ advises federal ministries on their cooperation with international organisations and initiatives. At the international level, these include the United Nations Sustainable Energy for All Initiative, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21). At the European level, these are the European Union Energy Initiative (EUEI) and the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP). At the regional level, GIZ supports energy policy institutions and processes in the Arab world, Southeast Asia, West Africa, Central America and the Caribbean.
GIZ also supports the German Government in implementing the bilateral energy partnerships with Algeria, Brazil, Chile, China, India, Jordan, Morocco, Mexico, South Africa und Tunisia. These bilateral energy partnerships are an important instrument for the ongoing exchange on energy policy and economic issues and for achieving progress in energy system transformation.
GIZ participates in the further development of the international energy policy agenda and accompanies the development of strategies for a sustainable energy policy. It advises its partners on cooperation with the private sector and the organisation of regional and global conferences and events.
In view of the great international interest in the experiences of German energy system transformation, the GIZ also provides information on German energy policy. In this way, it supports the global transformation of energy supply towards greater sustainability.
