Head to the USA after training

Apply now and spend a year in the USA with the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Programme (CBYX)!

Bonn/Eschborn. As of 1983, the German Bundestag and the U.S. Congress have offered young professionals the chance to spend a year in each other’s country and enhance their future personal development and career prospects. Since the launch of CBYX, some 5,000 young professionals from Germany and the USA have taken up this opportunity.

With a one-year stay in the USA that combines attendance at a vocationally oriented college with an internship at a U.S. American company, CBYX will next year once again offer young professionals the chance to experience the American way of life. Young people up to the age of 24 still have until 11 September to apply for this programme. Applicants must either have completed their vocational training or be in their final year. From joiners to retailers, everyone who takes part in the programme is a young ambassador for their country and helps to foster better understanding between the two nations. Now that the USA has recently given the go-ahead for further funding for CBYX, another 75 scholarships are again available for young professionals in the coming year.

The objective of the programme, which is organised jointly by the parliaments of these two countries, is to enable young people to get to know their host country from a historical, social and economic perspective while strengthening US-German ties. MPs from the German Bundestag and Members of the US Congress sponsor the participants for the duration of their stay. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is responsible for administering the CBYX programme on the German side.

The German Bundestag and the U.S. Congress pay all expenses associated with preparations for the CBYX programme and re-integration on return. Programme funding also covers the costs of attending college, accommodation with a host family and participants’ travel and insurance.

Application documents for the exchange starting in August 2016 can be requested until 11 September 2015. You can also request the documents online. Young professionals applying to participate in the programme have to have been born after 31 July 1991, have learned English for a period of several years and have completed their vocational training prior to departure.
