Our work in Germany

We serve Germany’s interests around the world. We also advise clients, commissioning parties and partners in Germany to this end.

Germany faces domestic and international challenges. Drawing on our international cooperation experience, our global network and our flexible structures, we actively support and work directly to achieve the objectives of the German Government. We also work closely with clients, commissioning parties and partners in Germany to this end.

Strategic policy advice: sector programmes

Sector programmes are geared specifically to the requirements of our main commissioning party, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). These programmes primarily see us provide BMZ with technical support and advice – in service of the German Government’s objectives.

We pick up on political momentum and proactively support BMZ in its strategic policy-making process. What do technical advisory services entail in this context? We provide input on domestic and international policy, set agendas and develop innovative and scalable approaches. At the same time, we work to strengthen the capacities of partners, institutions and societies in partner countries. We extrapolate lessons and develop specialist knowledge and expertise on a systematic basis to support BMZ in its strategic decision-making.

Flexible and customised

Sector programmes differ from other commissions primarily in terms of their steering logic and the closer degree of coordination with our commissioning party. They enable us to respond flexibly to current political requirements. While bilateral and regional projects tend to pursue clearly defined long-term development objectives in partner countries, sector programmes focus on direct knowledge transfer and strategic policy advice.

Regional commissions implemented internationally: our partnerships with Germany’s federal states

Our regional offices in Germany function as intermediaries between international partners, the German Government and Germany’s federal states. They advise federal state governments on international cooperation commissions and promote global networking at the same time.
