From Germany to Tanzania: working for the world’s future

International cooperation is an area that offers attractive employment opportunities, including in the financial sector.

Helping to achieve greater justice and shape a future worth living is what drives Annette Mummert day after day. Working for the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, she supports the Government of Tanzania in making the public finance system more efficient and transparent.

Two years ago, Ms Mummert, a finance and tax expert with a doctorate in economics, moved from Eschborn to Dar es Salam with her family to head a programme commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). She and her team now work to ensure that tax rates are levied and applied correctly – above all at local level, such as in hospitals. You can read her report in akzente, our client magazine.

Helping to achieve greater transparency in Tanzania, advising women who have set up small businesses in Mali or working as a peace expert to help shape the reconciliation process in Sri Lanka: the profiles of GIZ’s staff are as varied as the assignments open to them. They are experts in their field who drive change across the globe through their commitment and expertise.

The motivating factor for all GIZ experts is to carry out meaningful work in development policy with local partner organisations. In addition to the necessary professional skills, working in international cooperation for sustainable development also requires a high degree of mobility and flexibility.

As a federal enterprise, GIZ not only offers an international working environment, it also provides excellent social welfare benefits, various solutions for a better work-life balance and a wide variety of training opportunities.

GIZ operates in more than 120 countries and employs around 20,000 experts throughout the world. Detailed information about career opportunities is available on the jobs and careers page.
