State Secretary Flasbarth is the new Chair of the GIZ Supervisory Board

Appointment takes effect on 24 March 2022

Bonn/Eschborn, 24 March 2022. At its meeting today, the Supervisory Board of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH appointed Jochen Flasbarth as its new Chair. Jochen Flasbarth has been State Secretary in the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) since December 2021. His previous posts include that of State Secretary of the German Environment Ministry and President of the German Environment Agency. 

State Secretary Flasbarth said: ‘I am delighted to be taking over as Chair of GIZ’s Supervisory Board. In the politically challenging times we are living through today – with crises in Europe and around the world, global inequalities that are being exacerbated by the pandemic, rising hunger and poverty and ongoing climate change – we need stronger development cooperation and a resilient GIZ more than ever.’

GIZ’s Supervisory Board comprises 10 shareholder representatives and 10 workforce representatives. It appoints, monitors and advises the Management Board in carrying out its duties.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federal enterprise with worldwide operations.
