The Global Health Hub Germany: bringing together knowledge - developing solutions together - advancing global health

Project description

Title: Support for the Global Health Hub Germany
Commissioned by: German Federal Ministry of Health (BMG)
Finanzier: German Federal Ministry of Health (BMG)
Country: Germany
Overall term: 2022 to 2022

Context

Implementing the health-related goals of the 2030 Agenda requires cooperation between actors in many different fields. In early 2019, the German Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) therefore launched the Global Health Hub Germany (GHHG) to create a forum for information, dialogue and cooperation on global health between non-governmental stakeholders in Germany.

In its first phase, the GHHG has already developed a large network, held a wide range of events, and piloted various activities. Since its establishment, the GHHG has offered a platform to more than 1,500 members. In its second phase, the focus is on sharing findings, achieving measurable results, and expanding the policy dialogue.

Objective

Cooperation between the various participants in the network is enhanced. Germany makes a significant contribution to global health.

Approach

The project operates in four areas of action:

  1. It maintains the network, enhances coordination between the participants, and activates the members. In addition, it provides access to information from the global health community, and engages in public outreach via its website and social media. It also fosters cross-cutting dialogue through ‘communities of practice’ and develops partnerships with relevant institutions.
  2. The project promotes selected specialist topics. To this end, it holds dialogues on annual priority topics with experts from a wide variety of fields to provide input for policy-making. The results are documented and published (examples of recent topics include mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic, or early warning systems for neglected tropical diseases).
  3. It gives policy-makers access to the expertise of non-governmental stakeholders. To this end, it is building a network of relevant political stakeholders and developing suitable formats for dialogue between the GHHG and policy-makers, such as ad-hoc expert panels.
  4. It is continuing to develop the Global Health Hub and supporting the implementation of the new GHHG strategy. It also reaches out to potential sponsors to mobilise resources for the GHHG.
