Ending the 5-year journey of afforestation in U Minh Ha national park

The closing event of the project “Cooperation with the private sector for afforestation in Viet Nam” held on May 31 in Ca Mau was a great opportunity to look back and celebrate the project’s achievements. in increasing forest cover, maintaining and improving ecological balance and strengthening the climate resilience of Ca Mau province from 2017 till date.

Mr. Tran Cong Hoang, Director of U Minh Ha National Park expressed his high regard for the positive impacts of the project. “With 35 hectares of successfully restored Melaleuca forest, the project has assisted Ca Mau in achieving its provincial and local plans, including the annual forest planting plan and socio-economic development objectives”.

The afforestation efforts also contributed to Viet Nam’s international commitment to halting and reversing deforestation by 2030, as part of the “Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration on Forests and Land Use”.

This is a great result of the close and effective cooperation between different stakeholders: the communities around the protected areas, the Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and U Minh Ha National Park”, shared by Ms. Anja Barth, Chief Technical Advisor of the project, GIZ.

Building on these achievements, fruitful cooperation on natural resources management and biodiversity conservation between the German and Vietnamese governments is continuing through various measures.

The event welcomed over 35 representatives from the Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Forest Protection Department, U Minh Ha National Park and local communities.
