India Clean Cookstove Forum 2014

10 – 12 November 2014 | Le Méridien, Windsor Palace, New Delhi

Background

Indoor air pollution (IAP) causes around 480,000 premature deaths annually in India (WHO). The use of improved cookstoves (ICS) can significantly reduce IAP and biomass consumption with its negative effects on health and the environment. However, adoption of these stoves has been low so far. This is due to a non-functioning market for improved stoves: on the one hand, there is no significant demand, and on the other hand, the supply of appropriate technologies is insufficient while the overall market ecosystem is not favourable.

The IGEN-RE Programme

The “Indo-German Energy Programme - Renewable Energy Component” (IGEN-RE) is a bilateral technical cooperation between the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The project aims at strengthening the clean cooking sector by creating a conducive market environment.
