We have maintained an office in the heart of the European Quarter in Brussels since 1993. From here, we connect our teams around the world with European institutions and decision-makers.
GIZ in Brussels
Our office in Brussels acts as an interface between GIZ worldwide and EU institutions – for dialogue, implementation and new partnerships.

Dialogue and partnership
We consult closely with the European Commission, the European Parliament and other stakeholders in European development cooperation. We also maintain contact with the representations of Germany and its federal states in Europe, as well as with think tanks, foundations, non-governmental organisations and businesses in Brussels.
We contribute the expertise gained from our work in more than 120 partner countries to the European discourse. A key network in Brussels is the Practitioners’ Network for European Development Cooperation, which brings together European implementing organisations. We were involved in the founding of the Network in 2007. We are also a partner of the Africa-Europe Foundation, which aims to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between the EU and Africa.
What is the Practitioners’ Network?
The Practitioners’ Network consists of 25 European development agencies and the European Commission. They all work together to raise the profile of development cooperation on the European stage and underline its importance. The Practitioners’ Network discusses innovations, as well as new methods and approaches in international cooperation. This enables all participating stakeholders to ensure the most effective response to structural and technological changes and challenges.
Projects and business development
The EU is one of the world’s foremost actors in international cooperation – and GIZ is one of its most important and reliable partners. We are a contact partner for EU-financed programmes, grants and tenders.
Through our EU key account management, we support projects from inception to implementation. As a specialised service provider, GIZ International Services also implements many EU-financed projects around the world and has a presence in Brussels.
