GIZ is supporting the Afghan people

Assistance covers most basic needs.

Since August 2021 the situation for many people in Afghanistan has changed drastically. The Afghan people are facing hunger and poverty and require support to meet their basic needs, including running water, and adequate supplies of food, toiletries and electricity. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has therefore commissioned the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to resume project work in an adapted format after it was suspended in mid-August 2021. GIZ also continues to work on behalf of the Federal Foreign Office and BMZ to support Afghans and their families in leaving the country and entering Germany legally.
