Health care for Malawi, not donations for the US election campaign

Improved health services for 500,000 people in cooperation with the Clinton Development Initiative in Malawi.

Around 500,000 people in rural Malawi have gained access to essential food, health and HIV/AIDS services since 2013. This is the outcome of a project that the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has carried out on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) together with the Clinton Development Initiative (CDI).

The Malawian Ministry of Health was also involved in the project. Cooperation began in 2013 and ran until the end of May 2016. The German contribution to the project amounts to EUR 2.4 million. These funds are dedicated specifically to the project and GIZ processes their disbursement. CDI is responsible for implementing the project and has used the funds, for example, to build and equip health centres and train skilled health personnel. It is required to account to GIZ for the correct use of the funds. Statements suggesting that GIZ provided funds or made donations to the Clinton Foundation that were used to finance Hillary Clinton’s US election campaign are therefore incorrect.
