German-American Internship Programme

Supporting careers, broadening horizons: USA experience gives your CV the edge

Do you want to move to New York or Los Angeles, or would you prefer to go somewhere else in the country? On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, this year the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is again offering young Germans the chance to gain initial work experience in the USA through the German-American Internship Programme. Young professionals and graduates who are not yet 27 can spend up to a year on a job-related internship and gain an insight into life and work on the other side of the Atlantic.

In cooperation with the American partner organisation, Cultural Vistas, GIZ supports the participants in applying for the J-1 visa, provides assistance during their stay in the USA and can arrange financial assistance in the form of grants. Travel and language-course subsidies are also available. The participants themselves are responsible for finding their internships.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federal enterprise with worldwide operations. We support the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. We are also engaged in international education activities around the globe. Through our work, we assist people and societies in shaping their own future and improving living conditions.
