Last chance to apply for a US exchange

A year in the USA for vocational training graduates

Anyone interested in experiencing the American way of life at first hand needs to act fast: 14 September 2018 is the cut-off date for requesting application forms for next year’s US exchange, which will begin in August 2019.

The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (Parlamentarisches Patenschafts-Programm (PPP)) enables young professionals to immerse themselves in American society for a year and gain an in-depth appreciation of the country’s history, society and economy. The programme – now in its 35th year of sponsorship by the German Bundestag – offers them the opportunity to improve their language skills and enhance their career prospects. A particular attraction is the combination of everyday life, college and work.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is responsible for conducting the programme and managing support for the young professionals.

In the coming year, the sponsorship programme will once again make it possible for 75 young German professionals to experience the combination of college attendance and a vocational internship in a one-year stay in the USA.

The scholarships cover the costs of preparing for the visit, attending college, staying with a host family, debriefing on return, and travel and insurance. They are funded by the German Bundestag and US Congress.

Apprentices and young people already in work who are interested in applying for the programme should have a date of birth later than 31 July 1994, have had several years of English lessons and have completed their vocational training by August 2019, which is when the participants will leave for the USA.
