Since 2008, Mexico has been a strategic partner of the European Union. This partnership strengthened bilateral relations through a two-tiered mechanism—political dialogue and cooperation—to enhance multilateral coordination on global issues and renew bilateral development initiatives.
GOAL
Provide technical assistance to political and sectoral dialogues between Mexico and the EU, supporting the implementation of all pillars of the Strategic Partnership, the Global Agreement and its modernization, as well as other relevant dialogues and agreements.
APPROACH
GIZ applies an ad hoc, collaborative implementation model grounded in ethics, responsibility, and responsiveness to partner needs, ensuring effective execution and sustainability of agreements derived from EU–Mexico dialogues.
ACTIVITIES
• Provide advice and technical assistance to institutions engaged in EU–Mexico relations, focusing on green transition, digital transformation, sustainable recovery, governance, security, migration, social cohesion, human rights, and inequality reduction.
• Organize events, conferences, seminars, meetings, and technical missions that bring together EU and Mexican partners to advance political and sectoral dialogues and cooperation initiatives.
• Prepare and disseminate information, studies, and recommendations on dialogue topics, contributing to awareness of EU internal and external policies in Mexico.
EXPECTED RESULTS
• Identify cooperation priorities and activities based on dialogue outcomes and studies.
• Promote the external dimension of EU policies in priority areas of dialogue and cooperation with Mexico.
• Disseminate findings and recommendations to decision-makers, private sector, civil society, and academia at all levels.
• Monitor and follow up on the implementation of recommendations and priority actions arising from EU–Mexico agreements.
